The Dial
This tastefully aged, original and unrestored, dual-register, vintage Chrono-Suisse watch dial is an ornament of class, style & character. The dial is light grey although it can appear anywhere between a cold steel and a warm cream depending on the ambient light. The ornate blued-steel hands are rich and reflect the light as well as the day they were made. Matching the hands in deep-blue is the aged, yet entirely functional Tachymetre scale dashed across the outer circumference of the dial. Just inside is a Telemetre scale, this time in black as are the rest of the dial furnishings. The subsidiary minutes and seconds dials, at ‘3’ and ‘6’ respectively, both have a circular grain which has collected dirt over time and given the watch its handsome, age-encouraged two-tone appearance. Roman numerals and baton hour indices are painted on the inner section of the dial and are all sharp and clear to read. This dial is simply signed with the original arched ‘Chronographe Suisse’ signature, only seen on vintage models. Overall, this is a vintage watch dial that should be treasured as its appearance evolves further with time. These more technical dial designs will often age very beautifully and here, the trend certainly applies.
The Case
In 18ct pink gold, this is already among the rarest case materials used for vintage watch cases. If we then add the fact that this Swiss-made gold chronograph watch case measures 38mm in diameter, excluding the crown and pushers, we have one of the rarest watch case designs you will ever see on the vintage dress watch market. Being the softer 18ct gold alloy, the case is far more prone to scuffs and scratches from general wear than the less pure 9ct gold watch cases. The 9ct variants are also far more common, even in pink gold. The watch has clearly been well used throughout its life but not mistreated, which suggests that the movement will have been regularly serviced and correctly maintained which is crucial with the complexities of vintage chronograph movements. The top profile, visible while the watch is being worn, shows no major or noticeable damage. The side profiles also show no significant structural damage, other than the very tips of the lugs which have dented slightly. I have full confidence in their ability to secure a spring-bar although I still feel that it’s worth mentioning. The buttons are still rose gold in colour, although with use their reflectivity has faded slightly in places. The case is of three-piece construction as was the entente at the time. The press-fit case-back is tightly fitted and comes on and off with a reassuring pop, more evidence of the fine treatment that this watch has received.
Strap & Buckle
This watch is fitted with a light brown soft calf leather strap and a gold-plated buckle. If a different strap would be preferred, I can fit a 20mm lug width strap provided by the buyer at no extra expense.
Conclusion
I'm a private seller, not a company so unfortunately returns aren't an option, unless of course the watch is broken or not as described when it arrives. I may ship 1-2 days after I receive payment, as I work full-time, and may not find time to get the package away immediately.
