A small independent vintage watch dealership that begun as a one man passion project...
The Dial
This previously restored black Omega dial has all the trademarks of a 1950’s Seamaster. The delicately arranged yellow gilt dauphine hands are a staple of 50’s dress watch design, and paired with 18ct yellow gilt pencil hour indices we’ve reached something quite impressive. Yellow gold on black is a stylish combination on vintage watches and does well catching the eye beside the cases thick gold bezel.
The ‘dauphine’ style hands have aged tastefully and the black inlays subtly compliment the dial. Both the hands and the ‘pencil’ hour indices remain rich and reflective and look beautiful on the wrist. A subtle minute track lines the outer perimeter of the dial while decorating and balancing the dial perfectly.
The dial is signed and badged ‘Omega Automatic’ and ‘Seamaster’ with ‘Swiss-Made’ at ‘6’, all in yellow lettering.
The Case
This solid 14ct yellow gold case measures 32mm, has a thick bezel and large bullhorn lugs. The Seamaster was initially a culmination of the technologies developed throughout the war in a damn-reliable watch. This is very much clear with this Omega Swiss-made Ref.2828 SC, the case is of firm and sturdy construction which instills confidence in the wearer and tells them not to have any concern in using it. The watch features an original crown with a period-correct Omega badge, which is pleasant and tactile to use.
This 14ct Omega Signed case is of 3-piece construction with a press fit case back and bezel, which comes on and off with a reassuring pop, indicating sound construction and no significant warping or damage to the case during its lifetime.
The press fit case back is signed with the ‘Omega Watch Co’ triangle, ‘Swiss Made’, ‘Patent Applied’, 14K and the case model reference number 2828 SC.
The Movement
This Ref.2828 SC houses the 20 Jewel, Omega Cal.471 automatic movement. The 4-series is very much where Omegas ‘war-time tech’ was first brought into development for civilians and it is what lead to the incredibly established Omega 5-series movements. This movement was first released in 1954, way after the end of war, so it benefits from many of the same manufacturing developments that the 5-series did. These include vastly increased shock protection, magnetic resistance, durable precision parts, a hermetic crown and the list goes on. These movements were developed in Omegas prime, right after decades of consistently producing watches built to endure war, the Seamaster was the sturdy and reliable watch for the working man.
This movement features a sweep seconds hand, and a 360-degree automatic self-winding mechanism. The movement is signed ‘Omega Watch Co Swiss’, ’20 Jewels’, also inscribed on the movement is the caliber number 471 and the movement serial number 15505466, dating this watch to 1957.
Strap & Buckle
This watch arrived at our doorstep with a tan buffalo calf leather strap attached and we think its one of the best matches between strap and watch we’ve ever seen. Although it’s losing a couple of threads near the lugs we decided not to replace the strap as we think it suits the watch perfectly. If a new strap would be preferred, Vintage Watches UK will provide one from our selection free of charge, so no worries if your taste differs from ours.
Conclusion
The watch is sold as is. Unfortunately returns are not an option, unless of course the watch is broken or not as described when it arrives, so we urge you to ask plenty of questions before you decide to buy. The watch will take a next day tracked and insured delivery service for the UK, and a 3-5 day service for customers abroad.
