The Dial
This completely original and unrestored classic 'Visodate' dial remains in excellent condition despite its age, with no marks or scratches visible to the naked eye. Even under a loupe, this dial has very little to fault other than the minimal damage to the minute and hour hands. The dial is furnished with onyx coated gilt baton hour indices, as well as a yellow gilt framed aperture at '3' which displays the watches date function. The dial is silver with a brushed finish, giving the watch an industrial feel, matched by the straight thin lugs and smooth simple bezel. The dial is signed 'Tissot', with 'Visodate' below and 'Swiss Made' below 6. The Tissot badge, as well as the hands, are yellow gilt, and they reflect sunlight beautifully.
The Case
This gold-plated watch case is of sturdy and robust construction, and still has smooth and well-defined edges. Measuring 34.5mm in diameter, this is quite a large sized watch for the period, the standard size for a man’s wrist in the 1960s was 33mm and 1-2mm makes a very noticeable difference when the watch is worn. The watch has certainly been worn and continuously maintained during its life, which with mechanical items is always an excellent sign of reliability, future-proof design, and excellent construction and performance. The straight lugs are sharp and well defined, with only a small scratch on the outside of the top right lug to report. The case-back is made from stainless steel and cannot be removed. Instead, the watch is hermetically sealed, meaning the watch must be opened by removing the lens using air pressure applied through the stem shaft once the quickset crown and stem are removed. Pushing the original Tissot signed crown in firmly clicks the date over, which is satisfyingly immediate, providing confidence in the condition of performance of the movement.
Strap & Buckle
The strap is made from a soft black leather, which remains soft and has been treated with strap oil to stop it cracking. I cannot entirely confirm, but I believe the buckle to be original due to the fact that its apparent age, colour and design match that of the case extremely well.
Conclusion
I'm a private seller, not a company so unfortunately returns aren't an option, unless of course the watch is broken when it arrives. I may ship 1-2 days after I receive payment, as I work full-time, and may not find time to get the package away immediately.
