The Dial
This fine pink gold Zenith dress watch features a warm ivory-cream dial with 18ct gold hour indices and hands. A set of very clean 'Sword' style hands is paired with 3, 6, 9, 12 Arabic numerals and 18ct gilt stick hour indices. This dial has recently been professionally restored to an incredible standard.
The dial is signed and badged 'Zenith' with the Zenith Star proudly placed in gold at 12 and 'Swiss Made' at 6. The dial is very clean without bearing a single spot or mark. This rose gold Zenith truly is in 'as new' condition, incredible for a watch from 1962. To find one featured on such a sizeable 18ct pink gold watch from Zenith is a blessing and a pleasure as a watch collector.
The Case
At 35mm this is a fairly large vintage watch 35mm excluding the pink gold replacement crown. The case material is 18ct pink gold, much rarer in comparison to the yellow gold and stainless-steel models from Zenith. It is for this reason that demand for vintage pink gold watches is higher than ever, and a model in such a condition as this certainly benefits significantly from its scarcity.
The lugs are short, smart and discreet, ever-so-slightly tapering into the rounded case. The bezel is thin, allowing the dial to immediately catch the eye. The surfaces are immaculately smooth and the edges sharp and refined. The condition of this piece is truly impressive and it truly is a beautiful piece.
This case is of 2-piece construction, consisting of a case body, and press-fit case-back. The back can be removed with a case knife and as you do so it comes off with a reassuring pop, indicating a metal case of sound construction that hasn't warped with age. Inscribed on the back is the case seral number 901754 and on the inside, a Zenith signature beside Swiss 18ct hallmarks.
The Movement
Zenith has a long and proud history of mechanical watchmaking. Deciding to break the tradition of a fractured production line, Georges Favre-Jacot decided to put watchmakers, dial-makers and case-makers all under one roof and opened the first watch 'Manufacture' in 1865.
Housed in this watch is a Zenith Cal.120 Swiss-made movement, freshly serviced and calibrated by our master-watchmaker. The movement features sweep seconds and incabloc shock protection, a spring-loaded mounting mechanism for the jewels in contact with the balance wheels pivot. Before incabloc and kif shock protection, balance staffs were a common breaking point in mechanical watches, as they bear a lot of weight in comparison to their strength.
The watch runs with strength and confidence and we would certainly deem this watch more than capable of meeting everyday requirements. The movement is signed with 'Zenith', 'Swiss Made', '18 Jewels' with the calibre number below the balance wheel. The movement serial number 5357945 dates this watch to 1962.
Strap & Buckle
This watch is fitted with a brown leather strap and rose gold plated buckle. If a different strap would be preferred, I can fit an 18mm strap provided by the buyer at no extra expense.
