The Dial
Original dials in this condition are a rare find at a fair price, so whenever we get the chance to offer one such as this to our customers we’ll jump at the opportunity.
This silver dial is outfitted with yellow gilt batons which are doubled up at 6, 9 and 12 and all of which have a well-maintained brushed finish. At 3 is the watches day-date window, featuring English days of the week and the date in Arabic numerals. The dial carries a tidy minute track on its outer rim.
The Omega logo and signature sit proud and clear below 12, with ‘Automatic’ below, then ‘Seamaster’ below that. The tritium lume on the hands has aged and no longer noticeably glows in the dark, nonetheless ‘T Swiss Made T’ is signed at 6, referencing the original tritium lume on the hands.
The Movement
The 24 jewel Cal.752 is the final and most equipped model from Omegas 7-series movements, ending production in 1970. The most notable features are full-rotor automatic winding, day and quick-set date as well as incabloc shock protection, which all work splendidly since its recent service. This is a watch capable and suited to everyday use.
The movement is inscribed ‘Omega Watch Co’, ’24 Jewels’. Also, the calibre number 752 and the movements serial number 29456696, which dates this watch to 1970, this movements final year of production.
The Case
The case is stainless steel, plated yellow gold, which covers every surface visible when worn, this, of course, excludes the case-back. 37mm is a large case diameter for an early 70’s watch, now, it seems a perfect fit for today’s dress watch scene. The watch carries a large wrist presence at 11mm tall and to the untrained eye looks new, by way of its condition.
The case is heavy, with thick lugs and a smooth, slightly rounded form. The case-back is solid stainless steel with no gold plating. All are finished immaculately with no dents or scuffs, indicating that this watch has been excellently cared for throughout it’s life, this is also supported by the condition of the original dial. The crown is a gold plated service replacement that discretely fits the case in both proportion and aesthetic. The rounded screw-down case-back has a smooth finished stainless-steel surface and is stamped with the famous Seamaster badge. The badge is in fantastic condition, remaining sharp and defined, showing very few signs of wear. The rubber gaskets were replaced during the last service, however the waterproofing has not been tested and is therefore not guaranteed.
The inside of the screw-down case-back is inscribed with the ‘Omega Watch Co’ triangle, followed by ‘Swiss Made’, ‘Stainless Steel’ and the model reference numbers CD 166 032 and CD 168 623.
