The Dial
The original but restored silver-white burst dial here is in outstanding condition. There isn't a single spot, pit or patch of fading in sight here, instead the dial glows a brilliant white and proudly wears its wide yellow gilt batons which are rich and bright by virtue of their impeccably polished surfaces. The grain of the burst is beautifully faint, creating a wash of reflective light patterns in place the more granular touches that appear with a thicker grain. The dial is simply signed ‘Garrard’ with ‘Swiss Movement’ below 6.
The Case
This solid 9ct gold London made watch case measures 34mm in diameter, being a decently sized vintage watch by todays standards. The hallmarks date the case to 1979, although the cases smooth surfaces and sharp edges certainly don’t show over 40 years of age. The case is of two-piece construction and features an engraved screw-down case-back. The threads in the case and case-back feel impeccably smooth which shows that the gold case hasn’t bent or warped with time. Inside the case-back is signed the case-makers signature ‘DS&S’ for David Shackman & Sons, a goldsmiths based just outside of London, used by only the most affluent watch houses, most notably and often, Rolex. Also inscribed are the 9ct London hallmarks. Straight tapered lugs suitably match the unfussy design of the body with smooth and straight surfaces. If the buyer would prefer the watch without the engraving, we can have it removed at cost price before it is sent it out, provided the watch and the case-work has been paid for in full.
The Movement
A Swiss-made mechanical movement from ETA is certainly something that one can be confident in, provided of course it has been properly maintained. However, when a movement is in this condition there is almost zero doubt that the watch will serve its wearer handsomely for many decades to come. Needless to say, the watch winds and sets impeccably and the second-hand sweeps across the dial fluidly. The watch had been serviced by its previous owner, although an exact date is not known. The movement is signed ’17 Jewel’ as well as the calibre number ‘2750’.
Strap & Buckle
This watch is fitted with a genuine crocodile leather strap and matching yellow gold-plated buckle. We can fit another strap to the watch upon request, again, at the buyer’s expense.
Conclusion
I'm a private seller, not a company so unfortunately returns aren't an option, unless of course the watch is broken when it arrives. I may ship 1-2 days after I receive payment, as I work full-time, and may not find time to get the package away immediately.
